Spear Thistle, Göteborg, June 16th, 2002
"Are you picking flowers?" asked the young gentleman
with little Miss silent by his side.
"Nah, well, collecting plants," said I,
looking at the goosefoot samples in my hand
"these aren't what you'd put in a vase, exactly, are they?"
"Oh, I thought maybe your husband had died, or somebody
but you mean you, like, dry them, and stuff?"
and I nod, counting my scanner amongst the "stuff."
"Did you see that huge CACTUS back there?"
"Yes, isn't it mighty - actually a thistle.
A Spear Thistle - it's the spikest we've got
but... not really a cactus."
So I give the Spear Thistle a fifth turn
and the Marsh Thistle from the Ditch its second.
