I have seen mallow leaves in the New Lawn
before the last snow
but these
are from the Next Block
where there are these iron grids embedded in the lawn
as paths
to the utility doors
on the outside of this winding long building
where someone feeds the seagulls chicken
and someone jots down Italian dressing
on their grocery list
and I go weed-walking this February Sunday
forgetting my gnawing worries
about next month's bills
for an hour or two among the S-weeds.
